IP Addresses
Static and Dynamic IP Addresses
When connecting to the internet, your computer must have what is called an IP address in order to communicate and interact with other devices. You’ll have a good idea if you think about them like post-codes for your PC. There are two kinds of addresses, Static and Dynamic which you’ll have depending on which you pay for.
A Static IP Address is one that remains the same every time you connect to the internet, whereas a Dynamic IP Address is one that your computer selects from a public pool each time it goes online. This public pool is managed by an international agency which distributes the finite number of addresses.
There is a preference for static IPs as they offer slightly better security and PCs are easier accessed by hosts.
Primus offers packages that include single or blocks of static IP addresses.
